Retenue du Corps

Over the next several weeks, CCF members will continue to hone skills as we improve our retenue du corps, or restraint of the body.  Retinue du corps is

that precious quality by which the fencer who wants to attack is sufficient master of his movements to allow his body to begin the lunge only when the point is in the line where the thrust is to be made and the arm has extended entirely.
-Gomard, 1845

Following warm-ups, Patrick will direct drills that address this principle for about 30 minutes.  After sufficient focus on retenue du corps,  we will continue with our la canne curriculum.
